Hakkai has somewhat of a dark past before coming to Hogwarts; he is a pureblood, but, after the death of his older twin sister, he ended up in a muggle orphanage until he came to Hogwarts. Also, at the orphanage, he met Gojyo, whom he considers to be his best friend. He doesn't share his past with many, and has adopted a polite and ever-cheerful demeanor to cover his unpleasant history. He is generally passive and friendly, and won't get overly passionate about anything unless those he cares about are in danger.

Hakkai is blind in one eye and wears a monocle to help with his depth perception. He also has a large scar on his abdomen of which he is very self consious. He is also very perceptive and will catch on to things easily. He does well in school and pays attention in class, and is fairly good at tutoring, should anyone need help in something. He isn't overly athletic, and is instead more domestic, being talented at sewing and cooking.

One bizarre thing about Hakkai is that, on rainy days, he gets pain in his scar and also becomes depressed and tends to lock himself up in his dorm. If anyone asks, he'll say nothing is wrong, and, when the rain stops, he'll be back to normal.
